The Basic Theorem and its Consequences
Let T be a compact Hausdorff topological space and let M denote an n–dimensional subspace of the space C(T ), the space of real–valued continuous functions on T and let the space be equipped with the uniform norm. Zukhovitskii [7] attributes the Basic Theorem to E.Ya.Remez and gives a proof by duality. He also gives a proof due to Shnirel’man, which uses Helly’s Theorem, now the paper obtains a...
متن کاملPartition Identities and a Theorem of Zagier
In partition theory and q-series, one often seeks identities between series and infinite products. Using a recent result of Zagier, we obtain such identities for every positive integer m. For example if m = 1, then we obtain the classical Eisenstein series identity X λ≥1 odd (−1)(λ−1)/2qλ (1− q2λ) = q ∞ Y n=1 (1− q8n)4 (1− q4n)2 . If m = 2 and · 3 denotes the usual Legendre symbol modulo 3, the...
متن کاملScaling Identities for Solitons beyond Derrick’s Theorem
New integral identities satisfied by topological solitons in a range of classical field theories are presented. They are derived by considering independent length rescalings in orthogonal directions, or equivalently, from the conservation of the stress tensor. These identities are refinements of Derrick’s theorem.
متن کاملFan-KKM Theorem in Minimal Vector Spaces and its Applications
In this paper, after reviewing some results in minimal space, some new results in this setting are given. We prove a generalized form of the Fan-KKM typetheorem in minimal vector spaces. As some applications, the open type of matching theorem and generalized form of the classical KKM theorem in minimal vector spaces are given.
متن کاملP6lya's Counting Theorem and a Class of Tensor Identities
In an extensive class of combinatorial problems concerned with the enumeration of labelled structures (graphs, trees, regular polyhedra with labelled edges, vertices, faces, etc.), one is concerned with the action of a finite group G on a set R of functions (domain D = {1, 2, ..., d), range R = {1, ..., r}) [1, 2]. For example, if D = {1, ...,6} is regarded as the six faces of a cube and R — {1...
